A particularly genuine and beautifully presented example of the iconic British-built Vespa Rally 200, benefiting from a high-quality older restoration, extensive photographic history and over 18 years of previous ownership.

Having spent almost 40 years buying, selling and working on Vespas, our director purchased this particular Rally because of its originality, genuine appearance and, importantly, the quality of its restoration. Restored over 20 years ago using traditional techniques, including lead loading rather than conventional body fillers, the quality of the workmanship remains evident today, particularly in the exceptionally well-preserved floors and bodywork. An extensive collection of original developed photographs documents the restoration and accompanies the scooter.

The paintwork remains in excellent overall condition, naturally there are a few small chips and age-related marks, as you would expect from an older restoration. Two small holes in the legshields from previously fitted crash bars are discreetly concealed by target badges. All have been photographed.

Mechanically, the scooter runs beautifully and has been regularly enjoyed on fine days. It benefits from a discreet SIP performance box exhaust with appropriate carburettor jetting, while we have fitted modern, road-friendly tyres. We also understand that the crank-side bearing was replaced before the previous keeper acquired the scooter in 2008.

The scooter retains matching frame and engine numbers and indicates 11,954 miles, although the mileage cannot be verified.

What particularly appeals to us about this Rally is the balance between originality, condition and usability. It isn't a freshly restored showpiece you're frightened to use, nor a tired classic requiring extensive restoration. It's a beautifully presented, properly restored scooter with just enough evidence of use to make it something you can genuinely get out and enjoy.

In a nutshell, one of the most desirable classic Vespas, the Rally 200 is a highly regarded model among enthusiasts, and this is a particularly appealing example with genuine history and character.

They are used motorcycles, not new, and will show light signs of use consistent with age and mileage — as you’d expect in the real world.
